If you plan to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, the Lemosho route is a well-liked option that offers stunning views and few crowds. It's a more recent route with a strong track record. The route passes via the Shira Plateau after beginning with a drive to Londorossi Gate
Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania
• Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your
hotel in Moshi or Arusha.
• Meet with your climbing team for a briefing and equipment
check.
• Rest and prepare for the trek ahead.
Day 2: Lemosho Gate (2,100m) to Big Tree Camp (2,780m)
• After breakfast, drive to the Lemosho Gate where you will
complete registration formalities.
• Begin hiking through lush rainforest with a chance to spot
wildlife such as colobus monkeys and various bird species.
• Reach Big Tree Camp and set up camp for the night.
Day 3: Big Tree Camp (2,780m) to Shira 1 Camp (3,500m)
• Continue through the rainforest until reaching the heather and
moorland zone.
• Enjoy panoramic views of the Shira Plateau and Mount Meru.
• Set up camp at Shira 1 Camp for overnight stay.
Day 4: Shira 1 Camp (3,500m) to Moir Hut (4,200m)
• Ascend through rocky terrain towards the alpine desert zone.
• Pass through the Shira Cathedral and reach Moir Hut for
camping.
Day 5: Moir Hut (4,200m) to Barranco Camp (3,960m)
• Traverse the vast lava ridges of the Western Breach.
• Descend into the scenic Barranco Valley, known for its giant
senecio plants.
• Camp at Barranco Camp, nestled beneath the imposing
Barranco Wall.
Day 6: Barranco Camp (3,960m) to Karanga Camp (4,035m)
• Conquer the Barranco Wall, a challenging yet exhilarating
climb.
• Trek through stunning alpine desert landscapes.
• Reach Karanga Camp for overnight stay.
Day 7: Karanga Camp (4,035m) to Barafu Camp (4,680m)
• Ascend to Barafu Camp, the base camp for summit night.
• Rest and prepare for the final push to the summit.
• Enjoy stunning views of Kibo Peak and the surrounding
glaciers.
Day 8: Barafu Camp (4,680m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) and Mweka Camp (3,100m)
• Start the summit attempt around midnight.
• Trek through steep scree and snow towards Stella Point.
• Continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.
• Descend to Mweka Camp for a well-deserved rest.
Day 9: Mweka Camp (3,100m) to Mweka Gate (1,650m)
• Descend through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate.
• Receive your summit certificates and celebrate your
achievement.
• Transfer back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha for a hot
shower and celebration dinner.
