The 7 days Machame route, also known as the "Whiskey Route," is renowned for its scenic beauty and high success rate. This route offers trekkers a diverse array of landscapes, from lush rainforest and moorland to alpine desert and the icy summit of Kilimanjaro. Starting at the Machame Gate, the trail winds its way through some of the most spectacular scenery on the mountain, providing ample time for acclimatization and making it one of the more popular routes for those aiming to reach Uhuru Peak.

Arrival Day: Kilimanjaro Airport to Moshi
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport, you will be greeted by our representative and transferred to your hotel in Moshi. After check-in, you will attend a briefing where our experienced guides will provide an overview of the climb, review your gear, and answer any questions you might have. This day is all about settling in and preparing for the adventure ahead.

Day 1: Machame Gate to Machame Camp
After breakfast, you'll drive to the Machame Gate, where the climb begins. The first day of trekking takes you through the lush rainforest, with towering trees and vibrant flora. The trail can be muddy and slippery, so be prepared for a challenging start. After several hours of hiking, you'll arrive at Machame Camp, located at 2,835 meters (9,300 feet).

Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp
The trail continues through the forest until it opens into a savannah of tall grasses, heather, and volcanic rock draped with lichen beards. As you ascend, you will experience a range of ecosystems and witness breathtaking views. You'll reach Shira Camp, situated on a plateau at 3,750 meters (12,300 feet), where you'll have time to rest and acclimatize.

Day 3: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp
This day involves a long trek over the Shira Plateau, making your way toward the Lava Tower, a volcanic rock formation at 4,600 meters (15,190 feet). After a rest and acclimatization period at the Lava Tower, you'll descend into the Barranco Valley, where you will camp for the night at Barranco Camp, set at 3,960 meters (12,990 feet).

Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
The day begins with the challenging Barranco Wall, a steep but manageable climb that rewards you with stunning views of the Heim Glacier. Once you've scaled the wall, the path winds up and down through the Karanga Valley. After several hours of trekking, you'll arrive at Karanga Camp, positioned at 4,035 meters (13,250 feet).

Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
From Karanga Camp, the trail leads to Barafu Camp, the base camp for your summit attempt. The landscape becomes more barren and rugged as you ascend, and you'll get a sense of the challenge that lies ahead. Barafu Camp is located at 4,640 meters (15,220 feet), and here you'll rest and prepare for the midnight summit push.

Day 6: Barafu Camp to Summit and Back to Mweka Camp
Around midnight, you'll begin your final ascent to the summit. The climb is steep and physically demanding, but the reward is worth the effort. You'll reach Stella Point at 5,739 meters (18,829 feet) and then continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet). After taking in the breathtaking views and capturing your summit photos, you'll descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp at 3,080 meters (10,100 feet).

Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate and Departure
The final day of your trek takes you through the lush rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you'll sign out and receive your summit certificates. Afterward, you'll be transferred back to Moshi for a well-deserved rest. Depending on your departure schedule, you may have time to explore Moshi before heading to Kilimanjaro Airport for your flight home.
