Arrival Day: Kilimanjaro Airport to Moshi
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel in Moshi. Here, you will have a briefing about the upcoming trek and finalize any preparations. The evening is free for you to relax and acclimatize to the altitude before starting your adventure.
Day 1: Nalemuru Gate to Simba Camp
Your journey begins with a drive to the Nalemuru Gate for registration and final preparations. The hike starts with a gentle ascent through farmland and pine forests, leading to Simba Camp at 2,671 meters (8,763 feet). This initial stage is a great introduction to the mountain, offering stunning views and the chance to see wildlife.
Day 2: Simba Camp to Second Cave Camp
The second day involves a steady climb through moorland, with expansive views of Kibo and the eastern ice fields on the crater rim. You will reach Second Cave Camp at 3,450 meters (11,319 feet) after about 6-7 hours of trekking. This camp provides spectacular vistas and the opportunity to further acclimatize.
Day 3: Second Cave Camp to Kikelewa Camp

Day 6: Kibo Hut to Summit and Back to Horombo Hut
The summit day begins around midnight with a challenging climb to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet). The trek to the summit takes 6-8 hours and involves climbing steep scree and potentially encountering icy conditions. After reaching the peak and taking in the incredible sunrise views, you will descend back to Kibo Hut for a short rest before continuing to Horombo Hut at 3,720 meters (12,205 feet).
Day 7: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate and Departure
The final day involves a descent through the lush rainforest to Marangu Gate. This 5-7 hour hike is a chance to reflect on your incredible journey and celebrate your achievement. At the gate, you will receive your summit certificates before being transferred back to Moshi. From there, you can catch your departure flight or extend your stay in Tanzania.
