Tour Itinerary
Trekking Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania's highest mountain, is a popular and spectacular route that follows the Lemosho Route. With detours at glacial zones, alpine deserts, heath and moorland, and lush rainforests, the trip provides a varied and picturesque experience. With a longer period of acclimatization, climbers can more effectively acclimate to the high altitude and raise their chances of successfully reaching the summit.
Day 1: Londorossi Gate to Big Tree Camp
The journey begins at Londorossi Gate (2,100 meters) where climbers register before entering Kilimanjaro National Park. From there, you will drive to the starting point at Lemosho Glades and begin your trek through lush rainforests to reach the Big Tree Camp (2,780 meters) for overnight camping.
Day 2: Big Tree Camp to Shira 1 Camp to Moir Hut
On day two, you will continue through the rainforest until reaching the moorland zone. The trail gradually steepens as you approach Shira Plateau (3,500 meters), where you will set up camp for lunch and short rest. The trek takes you across the vast Shira Plateau (3,800 meters) with stunning views of the surrounding landscape. You will ascend to Moir Hut (4,200 meters), located near the Lent Hills, where you will spend the night.
Day 3: Moir Hut to Barranco Camp
After breakfast, you will leave Moir Hut and ascend further towards Lava Tower (4,600 meters). This is a crucial acclimatization point before descending to Barranco Camp (3,950 meters) for overnight camping. The descent helps your body adapt to the altitude changes.
Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
On day five, you will tackle the Barranco Wall, a steep and thrilling climb that requires some scrambling. Once you conquer the wall, the trail becomes less challenging as you make your way to Karanga Camp (4,035 meters), where you will spend the night.
Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
The trail from Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp (4,640 meters) is relatively short but steep. This campsite is strategically located at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro’s summit cone, offering stunning views of the surrounding glaciers. Rest and prepare for the final ascent.
Day 6: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak and Mweka Camp
The summit day begins just after midnight, aiming to reach Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters) in time for sunrise. The ascent is challenging but rewarding as you stand on the roof of Africa. Here, you are rewarded with the most glorious sunrise you are ever likely to see, appearing over Mawenzi Peak. After enjoying the moment, descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp (3,100 meters) for overnight camping.
Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
After breakfast you descend once again through montane forest and at around midday, after saying farewell to your crew, we continue the descent to Mweka Gate and collect the summit certificates. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. From the gate, we continue another hour to Mweka Village. A vehicle will meet us at Mweka Village to drive us back to the hotel in Moshi for a well-deserved shower and a celebratory dinner!
