Tour Itinerary
The Machame Route climb of Mount Kilimanjaro is an exciting journey that provides amazing views of the surrounding area and an opportunity to explore the mountain's unique ecosystems. One of the most well-traveled paths to reach Kilimanjaro's summit, the Machame Route is renowned for its breathtaking scenery and strenuous ascent.
Day 1: Machame Gate to Machame Camp
The first day involves driving from Moshi to the Machame Gate, which serves as the starting point of the trek. From there, you will hike through the lush rainforest to reach Machame Camp, where you will spend your first night.
Machame Camp to Shira Camp
Day 2: On day two, you will continue ascending through the rainforest until reaching the heath zone. The trail becomes steeper, and you will pass through picturesque landscapes before reaching Shira Camp.
Shira Camp to Barranco Camp
Day 3: This day involves hiking across the Shira Plateau, a relatively flat terrain with stunning views of Mount Meru and the surrounding landscape. You will then ascend to Barranco Camp, located in a picturesque valley beneath the Barranco Wall.
Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Day 4: The fourth day includes tackling the Barranco Wall, which requires some scrambling but is not technically difficult. After conquering this obstacle, you will continue hiking through alpine desert terrain to Karanga Camp. Later you will ascend to Barafu Camp, situated at an altitude of about 4,600 meters (15,100 feet). This camp serves as a base for your summit attempt and is usually reached in the afternoon. Rest and preparation for the summit push are crucial at this stage.
Barafu Camp to the summit to Mweka Camp
Day 5: On day five, the summit day begins with a midnight start for the summit attempt. You will hike through steep scree and rocky terrain in darkness, aiming to reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Kilimanjaro, at sunrise. After celebrating your achievement at the summit, you will descend back to Barafu Camp and continue further down to Mweka Camp, where you will spend your final night on the mountain.
Day 6: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
On the last day, continue ascend down Mweka Camp, where you will descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. After completing the necessary formalities and receiving your summit certificates, you will be transferred back to Moshi.
