Overview
This is one of the best safaris that you are going to enjoy while you are the country of a thousand hills. The safari will expose you to 2 national parks that is Akagera national park which is famous for hosting the big 5 and volcanoes national park a home to mountain gorillas, golden monkeys and amazing culture. Some of the animals you will spot are leopards, lions, buffaloes, rhinos and elephants and these are Africa’s big 5 animals. You will visit Volcanoes national park which is a home to mountain gorillas, golden monkeys, birds, baboons, chimps among other wildlife.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Akagera national park
On the first leg of your safari, our company representative will pick you from the agreed pick up point, he will brief you about the safari and then embark on the journey to Akagera national park which is 2:30hours drive from Kigali. Arriving at the lodge accommodation will be at lunch time at around 1pm, check-in, have lunch and at 3pm, you will have your first step in the jungle of Akagera national park. Expect to see buffaloes, elephants, giraffes, rhinos, lions, oribis, zebras, among other wildlife, return to the jungle for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Game drive and boat cruise
You will wake up in the morning at 7am on scrumptious Rwandan delicacies, meet your driver guide and a ranger and head out to the jungle to catch the animals when they are still very active, you will spot Africa’s big five, other animals are giraffes, bushbucks, hyenas, impalas, birds among others. At around 10am, you will return to the lodge for relaxation, lunch and in the evening head out for a boat cruise on Lake Ihema where you will come across hippos, crocodiles, water birds among others. You will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes national park and visit Iby'iwacu cultural tour
Arise in the morning at around 7:30 am, enjoy a scrumptious breakfast, check out and transfer to Volcanoes national park which is about 5hours drive from Akagera national park, arrive at your lodge at 2pm, check-in, enjoy lunch and in the evening at 3pm, you will visit Iby'iwacu cultural center sometimes it is called gorilla guardian village. There is Kinyarwanda culture and Batwa culture, you will surely be entertained by songs, dances, naming to mention but a few, later after, head back to the lodge for your last night stay in the jungle.
Day 4: Gorilla trekking and departure
After a delicious breakfast at 7:30am, head to Kinigi information center to be briefed about gorilla trekking experience. A gorilla family will be assigned to you where you will go with a ranger guide and the porter to help you locate the gorillas and carrying your luggage, after you have met the gorillas, you will spend 1hour with them, take pictures, videos and then embark at the starting point to pick your gorilla trekking certificate, meet your driver guide and transfer back to Kigali thus marking the end of your safari.
