Tara River is formed by the merging of two rivers, Opasnica and Veruša, at the foothill of the Komovi mountain. This river is known for its clean water as the “tear of Europe“. With a length of 146.4 km it is the longest river in Montenegro. Its clear and icy water can be drunk in any part of the stream. The largest part of the Tara River, including its canyon, is under the protection of UNESCO as part of the Durmitor National Park since 1977, and it is one of the 25 most important natural sights. The river and the canyon abound in natural phenomena, cliffs and rapids, wild and untouched nature, which leave visitors breathless. The rich flora of this river conserves many species of plant from time, so it is possible to find some types of terrestrial flora from the ice age.
