Tour Itinerary
Day 1 :
UYUNI – SALT FLAT – ISLA INKAHUASI – PALACIO DE SAL HOTEL
The trip begins in Uyuni aboard our 4x4 vehicle. Our first stops include the train cemetery and Colchani town, where we explore an antique salt extraction factory owned by the local community. In Colchani, you have the opportunity to visit salt craft shops and witness the manual processing of salt. Next, we venture to the salt mines and salt piles (salt pyramids). Following this, you'll encounter the salt flat's natural formations known as the 'eyes of the salt,' characterized by large holes where water from beneath the old lake still forcefully emerges. We then head straight to the the first one of its kind salt hotel in Uyuni, constructed entirely from salt blocks sourced from the salar, now transformed into a museum. The journey continues with a visit to Inkahuasi Island, known for its unique and delicate coral-like structures, fossil and algae deposits, colonies of the rabbit-like viscacha, and towering giant cacti. From the island's summit, you can behold the entire expanse of the salt flat. Post lunch, we relish the sunset over the salt flat, concluding the day with an overnight stay at Hotel Palacio de Sal or a similar accommodation.
Day 2 :
PALACIO DE SAL HOTEL – LAGOONS – UYUNI
After an early breakfast, we will proceed with our journey into the higher and drier desert, characterized by breathtaking lagoons. The landscape transforms from vast flatlands to a volcanic terrain adorned with lagoons. One of the rare opportunities for wildlife observation occurs at Laguna Cañapa, a salt lake frequently visited by migrating pink flamingos. Continuing our exploration, we encounter additional flocks of these elegant birds at Laguna Hedionda, a shallow, mineral-rich body of water. Here, amidst diverse flora and fauna, including llamas, vicuñas, vizcachas, and Andean foxes, flamingos are a common sight. The Eduardo Avaroa National Park provides a habitat where these wild animals thrive. Our journey concludes as we return to Uyuni, with an estimated arrival time of around 18:00.
