Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Inca Jungle Trail to Machu Picchu – first day (Biking tour) (L, D)
Cusco – Santa Maria
We pick you up from your hotel around 7:30 a.m. and travel by bus for approximately 4 hours to CARRIZALES or SAN LUIS where we are going to start our biking. Biking, we are enjoying beautiful sceneries of mountains and are at the same time seeing many beautiful landscapes typical of the cloud forest of this area. Our biking will last about five hours till reaching Santa Maria where we are going to spend the night in a hostel.
Day 2: Inca Jungle Trail to Machu Picchu – second day (Trekking) (B, L, D)
Santa Maria – Santa Teresa
After an early breakfast this day walking starts. The duration of the tour will be about seven to eight hours. Among ascents and descents crossing the road we will see small traditional villages and a variety of vegetation. We will have the opportunity to walk on some of the ancient and perfectly preserved Inca road. Parrots, monkeys and birds of different species are among the animals that can be observed in the area. Also the flora is noteworthy. We will cross the river in cable cars. Finally we will arrive in the city of Santa Teresa where we will spend the night. After getting settled it’s optional, but recommended, to visit the thermal waters, a forty-five minute walk from town.
Day 3: Inca Jungle Trail to Machu Picchu – third day (Trekking) (B, L, D)
Santa Teresa – Aguas Calientes
Awake early and after breakfast, we will continue our trek towards Machu Picchu.
Other cable cars will take us over the Urubamba River again in old Santa Teresa city. We will walk for about two hours, along the way observing plantations such as Banana, Mango, orange and avocado, till reaching the Hydroelectric Power Station, also the place for lunch. With the mountain Machu Picchu in sight, we will walk for 2 hours more along the rail way to the city of Machu Picchu, Aguas Calientes. Here we will spend the night in a hostel.
Day 4: Inca Jungle Trail to Machu Picchu – last day (B)
Visit to the New 7 Wonders of the World
Machu Picchu
Morning begins very early, around 4 am, with breakfast at 4:30. The plan is to experience a beautiful sun rise at the sanctuary. To get there, we can either walk for about 1, 5 hour or take the bus that leaves at 5:30 (about 25 min.). Arriving we will see this magnificent citadel quietly being filled with the light of the day.
A walking tour (approximately 2 hours) is given by your guide and after you can explore the mysterious city by yourselves. If you still have some energy, you can also climb Huayna Picchu (2720m/8890ft)!!! It takes about 45 minutes to reach the top.
In Aguas Calientas (reached by bus or on foot), your guide will provide you with train tickets. The first train usually leaves at 15:55, arriving in Cusco around 20:20. If it’s full or other reasons come across, the second train leaves at 16:20. Terminus is Ollantaytambo, but one will be waiting stating your guide’s or the group name. From here you will be brought to Cusco in bus.
If desired, an extra night in Aguas Calientes town can be arranged. (Please let us know whether you would like to stay an extra night when booking your tour.
